The secret to designing a successful website is not a secret at all!
Everything begins with the Web Designer! Customers seldom know what they need and in many instances what they want. As a professional it’s the duty of the Web Designer or Web Design Company to properly consult the customer based on their experience and their success rate, utilizing one design approach over another. It is very easy to design a website ~ it’s very difficult to design a successful website.
It’s true every website and every customer is different, therefore their requirements are different, but one thing all customers need is for their audience to easily find their website. This can only be accomplished with organic search engine traffic.
Specific guidelines set forth by Google, Yahoo, and Bing are very explicit about the format, technology and overall structure a web designer needs to follow in order to build a successful website. This is public information that many ‘web designers’ don’t even know about. One of the first things you need to ask when interviewing a web designer or web design company is if they use Google’s Webmaster tools. If they claim to, then ask for the report on their corporate or personal website.
If the person you are dealing with is unable to produce this simple request it is likely you are dealing with an artist – specifically, a graphic artist – not a web designer. Today, more than ever, proper coding has become mandatory to achieve success on the internet.
With more browsers and mobile devices coming online every day, there is a great demand for websites to be cross browser compatible and bandwidth conscious.
Remember, the success of your website starts with your web designer. Do your homework, ask questions and verify the answers. If your web design company is unable to make their website rank, it is unlikely that they’ll be able to make yours rank.
